I truly am a sucker for fall weddings – the colors, the cooler weather, all of it. Last weekend, Jake and Ashley got married at The Heartwood in Lexington, Kentucky and it was such a beautiful day. The details and styling of this wedding were absolutely perfect. Can’t wait to share some sneak peek images from their Lexington Kentucky Wedding.
Simplistic Autumn Elegance
Everything about Jake + Ashley’s wedding had a sense of elegance and delightful autumn energy. The colors and the styling of the decor was just *chef’s kiss* – and matched perfectly with the season and the bride’s gorgeous red hair. I started my day as always, capturing some of the details, and I was blown away with the cohesion of everything. Jake + Ashley incorporated their pup into their day through fun graphic design elements. And can we talk about that INCREDIBLE boutonniere for the groom? I’m actually obsessed with it.
Heartwarming Ceremony at the Heartwood
This time of year, as it gets colder in Kentucky, we tend to see more indoor ceremonies. While I very much support this in terms of weather, as a photographer I always get nervous about the lighting situation. I hate to use flash for the ceremony as I think it disrupts the intimacy of the special moments. However, The Heartwood has a gorgeous open concept space with natural light that made for the perfect indoor ceremony. Ashley + Jake planted a tree together for their unity ceremony and it was such a beautiful gesture of the roots they are laying down through their marriage.
Creativity is Key for the Perfect Wedding Portraits
The Heartwood is positioned in a part of Lexington that is a little bit unassuming. Driving up to the venue, I was shocked when my GPS told me I was there because it was not your typical wedding venue. The inside of the venue was like a little oasis but the outside didn’t offer many options for epic wedding portraits. But I love a challenge. I got creative and Jake + Ashley’s couple portraits turned out to be some of favorites of this fall wedding season. Sometimes you can make the most beautiful portraits out of unconventional locations.
