Backyard Wedding in Shelbyville, Kentucky
This weekend, David and Catherine got hitched in their backyard in Shelbyville, Kentucky! Originally, these two booked for a spring 2024 wedding at a traditional venue but a few months ago, they reached out to change their plan to an intimate backyard wedding. Let me tell you – I love all the small weddings I’ve been shooting lately! This is a trend that I really hope sticks around.
Catherine and David’s day was so beautiful and laid back, matching their personalities perfectly. They got ready slowly in their own home surrounded by their pets and immediate family. The ceremony was intimate, with only 5 guests, and it lasted less than 5 minutes! Truly short, sweet, and to the point – my favorite kind of ceremony! These two really understood that it’s about the marriage, not the wedding. They didn’t need any frills – just each other. Plus their closest friends and family to celebrate with them.
The guests arrived a little later and I could feel the love and excitement for this couple in the air. The guests enjoyed dinner and drinks while visiting with each other. The evening progressed with no real schedule – we cut the cake, took some family photos, and broke out the cornhole boards. Their invitation said it perfectly – nothing fancy, just love. We snuck away for some sunset photos and then I left this family to enjoy their evening!
It was such a pleasure to capture David and Catherine’s wedding day. Before the wedding, I was chatting with David’s grandmother and she said – they’re not in it for the wedding, they are in it for the marriage. I love this sentiment and feel like it definitely rang true in the decisions they made for their celebration. I am confident that the Hughes are in for a long and happy marriage. Honored to have been a little part of it!
From this Louisville Wedding Photographer – a huge congratulations to the newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. Hughes!
